Fickt nicht mit der Raketemensch

Margherita bringt Slothop in den Russischen Sektor. Der Prozeß der Desintegration, der sich später noch fortsetzt, beginnt bei Slothrop.

“The day he sat with Säure in that café, smoking that reefer . . . oh that was day before yesterday, wasn’t it ? (…) Slothrop perceives that he is loosing his mind. If there is something comforting—religious, if you want—about paranoia, there is still also anti-paranoia, where nothing is connected to anything, a condition not many of us can bear for long. Well right now Slothrop feels himself sliding onto the anti-paranoid part of the cycle, feels the whole city around him going back roofless, vulnerable, uncentered as he is, and only pasteboard images now of the Listening Enemy left between him and the wet sky.” (434)

Oder lag es am Dope? Slothrop will das Haschisch abliefern, das er abgeholt hat, aber es ist gar nicht so leicht, Emil “Säure” Bummer aufzutreiben. Mit dem Schlachtruf

“Fickt nicht mit der Raketemensch!” (435)

erwehrt sich Slothrop seiner Verfolger, die auf die Nennung von Bummers Namen ziemlich allergisch reagieren.

John Dillinger

Bummers Versteck ist verlassen, aber in einer Schachfigur, einem Springer aus Imipolex G, findet Slothrop eine Nachricht, die mit John Dillingers Signatur unterschrieben ist:

“Now “As B/4” was John Dillinger’s old signoff. Everbody in the Zone this summer is using it. It indicates to people how you feel about certain things.” (436)
